SAN FRANCISCO DRAGONS
New Season, New Coach, New Focus, New Venue
By Heidi Faith
The San Francisco Dragons have everything going for them this year to compete for the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) championship. Two years after becoming an expansion team, the Dragons feel they have the talent to scorch the competition in 2008.
New head coach Tom Slate brings a new focus to the young franchise. After serving as assistant coach for the MLL champion Philadelphia Barrage, Slate brings his extensive experience to the Dragons. A former MLL and USA team player, Slate knows what it takes to win and he plans on winning!
Led by MLL All-Star midfielder Chris Rotelli, attackmen Liam Banks and rising young talent Jake Byrne, the Dragons have a powerful and skilled attack in place. The powerful combination of 2007 MLL All-Star defenseman Eric Martin, faceoff specialist Greg Gurenlian and MLL All-Star goalie Matt Vallone will continue to shut down opposing offenses. Finesse and speed are the hallmarks of midfielder Jarett Park and his exciting transition game.
After playing two years at San Francisco's Kezar Stadium, the Dragons leave the small, foggy venue for a larger, sunnier home field: Spartan Stadium at San Jose State University. With Saturday evening home games, the fans are guaranteed an incredible view of fast-paced, high-scoring professional lacrosse, warmer weather and premium stadium seating.
Sports fans will not want to miss a minute of the Dragons action! Group tickets are available for as low as $9. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the San Francisco Dragons Ticket and Information Hotline at (877) 4-MLL-TIX. For more information, visit sfdragons.com.
