SANTA CLARA
Student Athletes Excel

Santa Clara University

Putting together another successful year on the courts, fields and classroom, Santa Clara student-athletes achieved much individual success in 2008-09. The year was highlighted by SCU's first female Rhodes Scholar and cross country captain, Noelle Lopez. Men's basketball had the WCC Player of the Year in John Bryant and the WCC Newcomer of the Year in Kevin Foster. The Broncos' first women's golfer to qualify for the NCAA Regionals was sophomore Miki Ueoka. And the school's third WCC Postgraduate Scholarship recipient was Elizabeth Doran of women's basketball.

Off the playing fields, Bronco student-athletes raised their cumulative GPA to a 3.114 after posting a record-high 3.15 GPA during the 2009 spring quarter. Continuing to shine academically, 126 Santa Clara University student-athletes made Commissioner's Honor Roll lists this year, including 97 on the WCC Honor Roll, 15 on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches list and 14 on the Pacific Coast Softball Conference list.
